Film fans – The waiting is nearly over. After the impact of the first part can it be better from the style-master…?Quentin Tarantino blew me away with his martial (st)art with The Bride avenging the assassins who attempted to kill her. The fighting, the stylised violence and use of music gave volume one a fresh unique feel to the film, which is very hard to follow…
What Tarantino has done is go to the opposite of part one and focus on finishing the story with the yang to the ying – The black to the first being yellow. If Volume 1 was his homage to the east then Volume 2 is his respect for the west (ern), as he has said himself.
QT’s fourth/fifth film is one of a defining two halves Vol.2 being one of slower pace, less action and far more cool dialogue that fans will not be disappointed. If you’re wanting a sequel that is more of the same then forget it because this is as far away from the first as it can FOR OBVIOUS REASONS!
The production is small scale compared to the set piece first and the sets are limited, what is paramount here is finishing the story and if that means less killing then so be it.
Uma is fantastic, she is every bit the mother as she is the assassin and that is one hell of a parent!
Darryl Hannah, Michael Madsen and David Carradine are all great as their characters and some scene stealing goes to the kung fu master who hates Americans and women, so Uma is against it from the start.
The second film lacks some of the cool of the first with little or no soundtrack (unless you’re a Johnny Cash fan!) and the first half an hour is a bit slow but you forgive because it aint that kind of film.
Are there any shocks? Oh Yes! The fight sequences, training and duels are all special but you get more QT language like a wonderful superhero section about the myths of Superman. You get the genre mixing from spaghetti western to film noir, from Sergio Leone to Alfred Hitchcock all in one film!
Imagine how exhausted you would be if this were a four hour film. The legend is back and fans will love it, whatever you expect will still leave you wanting more but do not worry it will close the book on Bill.
Queue up excited, watch the first one again because Vol.2 will complete the story and take you to new places. The first was yellow and black, this one is definitely black and yellow… and both are not without a splash of RED.
4/5

Enter Budd (Madsen) who is Bill’s hick brother who as a nasty Texan is a double barrelled kind of guy who goes for the jugular when faced with The Bride. They have quite a different kind of fight that ends up with Budd burying his opponent alive and if you are claustrophobic it is uncomfortable to watch.
Elle Driver (Darryl Hannah) is next as she arrives thinking the bride is dead and agrees to buy her sword off of Budd as a trophy to her death, but as the plot unravels she is particularly deceiving to her colleague as she kills Budd with a deadly snake (This is a great scene and very Tarantino), and to it comes the face off of the film as Uma fights Darryl in the dead Texan’s trailer. As ever it is inventive and original and extremely brutal. As The Bride leaves battered and bruised you will remember the Eye-to-Eye combat in this killing.
So to the final fight…Bill…
The father of her child doesn’t waste anytime introducing BB to her mother.
The Bride (Beatrix Kiddo – Yes she does have a name!) is hurt emotionally before any punch is thrown. Does she Kill Bill? Hell yes, with a great 5-point manoeuvre that is taught to her by her kung fu master and to summarise the story ends in a stylish but positive way.
