The concept – ten people are stuck in a ferocious storm in the middle of nowhere stranded in a convenient run down cheap motel, All have there own interesting sub- plots and coincidental reasons to be stuck there which we slowly learn through the film as the cast get picked off one by one and are killed to great creative effect. Too add to the already present tension each dead cast member is found with a motel room key on them reducing from ten to one! Who’s next and how will they die…..Nicely handled at times from Mangold who is trying to not be pigeonholed (Copland Girl Interrupted and Kate & Leopold) he gets a good ensemble against type at times to work well. This movie could of slipped into the all too familiar average bin with predictable clichés and poor scripts but this rises above with some sit-up moments and performances (Cusack, Liotta and all) doing there best!
Far from perfect this movie does have problems but it will certainly keep you awake for the duration. Recommended as an above average thriller/horror that has a little more thought than the usual no brainers.
