Alias - Season 1

Spytastic says Tyler
Alias has had a hard time in the UK. Totally messed around by several networks now, I can only hope more people can catch it on DVD now. In the US, it’s a prime time show that constantly picks up Golden Globe nominations, and even a win for the show’s star Jennifer Garner.

Garner is a star in the rising, no question, and the show rests on her shoulders for the most part. High kicking but elfin sexy, she tangles away with the roughest of the world’s henchmen. You see, she’s a CIA agent. But she’s also a college student, and no-one knows about her secret double life. But it’s actually a triple life as she doesn’t work for the CIA, but a rogue outfit that deals with the world’s bad guys. But she doesn’t know it, but…but…but…

The first series is constantly twisting and turning, and it’s a mild shame they’ve dumbed down the second series slightly in an attempt to win a wider audience. Every episode you’re treated to a couple of missions, some cool gadgets, some nice banter between the good and bad guys, and of course Ms Garner in an array of outfits that are usually tight, sexy and verging on fetish (rubber, uniforms, etc). Fantastic stuff.

The series also has a terrific bigger arc involving a historical Italian Renaissance man that feels distinctly Da Vinci, and his legacy of trinkets left around the world that will come together and form…well, you’ll just have to watch it to find out.

Alias also has an array of guest stars from Lena Olin as Garner’s mother through to one Mr Quentin Tarantino as a slick bad guy, but don’t worry, he’s actually rather good in it.

Buy it.
