I. SmallvilleII. The Office
III. 24
IV. Only Fools And Horses
V. The X Files
I know at time of writing it’s only two years in, but my current love for all things Superman has put Smallville as my top choice.
The Office, whilst being ‘the last big thing’ is still gold, and I think will stand the test of time.
For pure originality, and that ‘better than most films’ quality, 24 is my next choice. Everything to do with this show screams class, and a running around braless Eliza Cuthbert helps also… The third season seems to be continuing the high standard of the previous two, though having to have someone say “I think it’s going to be a very long day” every other episode is already beginning to grate.
Only Fools and Horses-classic comedy, laughs and sometimes tears, carried through with great performances from all involved. Hasn’t aged. Won’t age.
Finally I have The X Files, a true phenomenon in it’s day, but carried on a couple of seasons too long, don’t get me wrong, I thought Robert Patrick was great as Agent Doggett, but story lines got more repetitive and it was clear it was running out of ideas, and heck, whilst most male viewers and even some of the ladies out there, would agree that Gillian Anderson was hot stuff, Scully just got too damn glamorous for an FBI agent.
I remember watching the first two or three seasons and part of the attraction was that the stories we all watched were based on real life events or legends, but when it had exhausted all of these and had to think for itself a bit, things began to fall by the wayside. If it had finished by about season six, you would have seen it a lot higher in my top 5. Still enjoyed the movie though….
Friendship is everything. Friendship is more than talent. It is more than government. It is almost the equal of family. Never forget that.
